Microsoft, Activision/Blizzard, and the Questions That Follow Fair Game Video Games

In a crazy and unexpected move, Microsoft has almost closed the deal to acquire Activision for a whopping $68.7 Billion.

Activision has been in a lot of trouble in the recent past due to the sexual harassment cases going against its employees. Seems like they may now soon bid farewell to their troubles as Microsoft will be taking things over as soon. Cody and I spoke more in detail about that on Fair Game's Thursday Night Highlights.

This all raises a very important question - what will be the future of Activision’s games on PS5?

From PC to Xbox 360, to PS4, and now to PS5 and Xbox Series X, Call of Duty has always been, in my opinion, one of the biggest gaming titles of our generation. Call of Duty games have a huge player base on both PS4 and PS5. These games include Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Warzone (Modern Warfare), and the latest entry Call of Duty: Vanguard.

PlayStation sales for Call of Duty: Vanguard’s physical version accounted for over 70% of its total sales, leaving Microsoft with the remaining 30%. Is this a move to secure more of those players and move them over to Xbox?

So this means a huge community of players on PS consoles. Is the future of Activision games threatened? Will the COD games discontinue on PS consoles and become Xbox Exclusive now that Microsoft will acquire Activision? These are all questions we gamers have and will continue to talk about during this buying process.

The fate of these games on PlayStation dangles on the edge as Microsoft nears the closing of this gigantic deal. All we can do as fans is keep our fingers crossed and hope that they make a sensible decision, and leave the rest up to the developers and the gaming giant Microsoft.

Personally, I think this is a direct move in the console war, as we enter Generation Nine of home consoles/systems. Did Nintendo make a good move hooking up with Microsoft regarding some of their games earlier this year? We haven’t seen much movement from Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda either.

This is all exciting for us Microsoft fans, especially those of us that utilize the Game Pass streaming software. If you are a Sony fan… Well, now may be a time to buy an Xbox.
